Annual Charity Garage Sale
This great Central Texas tradition draws over 15,000 shoppers each year to browse the bargains in 20 different departments filled with donated merchandise. 100% of the net proceeds from this spectacular event go to the annual operating budget for the Home. The Settlement Home for Children accomplishes this goal through generous cash and merchandise donations from the community. Each year donated merchandise is collected from homes, businesses and through donor deliveries to our warehouse on The Settlement Home campus. At our 2008 Garage Sale, we will be celebrating our 33rd anniversary. Our 2008 Charity Garage Sale dates are November 7th-9th with our preview party being held on Thursday evening, November 6, 2008. Free parking will be available for this year's sale. Monetary sponsorships for the Garage Sale are available at many levels and include opportunities for a variety of publicity opportunities and tickets to all events associated with the annual sale. Donations are accepted from November 20th through October 10th each year. Giving For Living
A Community Outreach Program
Sundays at our annual charity Garage Sale are special. The Settlement Club hosts our community outreach program, Giving For Living. Over 70 Central Texas non-profit agencies distribute shopping certificates to their clients who are in need of assistance. The certificate enables the recipient to receive free admission and a pre-set amount of free merchandise from the Garage Sale. This program provides essential personal and household items to individuals and families deemed to be among those most in need throughout our community. In order to continue to provide this service to the clients of our sister agencies, The Settlement Club solicits donations to cover the cost of the value of each certificate. If you would like more information on sponsoring Giving For Living certificates or if you know of a non-profit agency whose clients might benefit from the certificates, please email development@settlementhome.org. SpringFest
Each April, The Settlement Home for Children hosts its annual SpringFest celebrating Austin-area community service. In keeping with the mission of The Settlement Home for Children to provide residential care for emotionally and sexually abused children, the event focuses on the community service of youth in Central Texas. This year, 75 area high school juniors were honored as members of The Settlement Home 2008 Community Youth Council. Nine area high schools were represented on the council. The Austin Police Department received The Settlement Home Community Leadership Award for their outstanding commitment of service and resources to The Settlement Home and other non-profit agencies in Austin and surrounding areas.
