Home Receives eBay Grant

Settlement Club, an organization committed to providing care and support for abused and neglected children, announced today that it has been awarded a $5,000.00 grant from the eBay Foundation Corporate Advised Fund at Silicon Valley Community Foundation.  The grant was recommended by eBay Foundation’s employee-volunteer led Austin GIVE Team.  Funds will be used to implement a Sensory Tool Packs program for newly admitted children.

The Sensory Tool Packs program is a resource for the children admitted into the Residential Treatment Center and Group Home Program.  At admission, each child will select a sensory tool pack where they can personally select identified items, such as eye masks, bubble bath, play dough, stress balls, etc.  Therapists help the children find ways to cope safely and avoid unsafe behaviors when in distress.

“This program is critical to the healing process that our children are going through.  These tool packs will allow them the chance to have safe and effective tools to use as they grow and heal from past abuse and neglect,” said Linda Kokemor, Executive Director of The Settlement Home for Children.

The Sensory Tool Packs program was made possible in part through eBay Foundation’s GIVE Team program, which empowers employees of eBay Inc. to support their communities through volunteerism and employee-sponsored grants.  In 2011 alone, GIVE Teams worldwide recommended 160 nonprofits to receive grants totaling more than $625,000.

“eBay Foundation was estimated to reach beyond the boundaries of eBay’s virtual village to develop strong communities that bring people together,” said Lauren Moore, President of eBay Foundation.  “Through our GIVE Teams, we’ve been able to identify and support a wide variety of outstanding programs, that feed families in the San Francisco Bay Area, educate children in India, assist seniors in Germany, mentor at-risk youth in Omaha, and serve the homeless in Austin—to name only a few.  We couldn’t be happier to add to our list of beneficiaries by supporting Settlement Club in its efforts to provide healing and nurturing to children through the Sensory Tool Packs program.
