Report Shows Travis County Foster Care System More Efficient Than Others

Interesting article in today’s edition of the Austin American-Statesman. The article includes findings from a report that indicate that the Travis County foster care system is more efficient than other systems in Texas.

The article states:
“Travis County is faring better than many jurisdictions in the state,” said Rebecca Lightsey, the report’s lead author. “Texas has some huge, huge problems, some really major resource problems … but this report shows that just putting more money into the system is not the whole answer.”

While there are hurdles to overcome, the study sheds light on the positive practices followed in Travis County, such as encouraging children to appear in court and assigning a single judge to follow a child’s case throughout his or her time in foster care.
