The Settlement Home for Children has selected former professional tennis player and philanthropist Andy Roddick as the 2013 Community Leadership Award Recipient. Roddick will accept the award while addressing youth volunteer leaders at the 2013 SpringFest event at the Golf Club at Star Ranch on April 28.
The Settlement Home presents the Community Leadership Award to an outstanding individual who has shown tremendous leadership and philanthropy in Austin. “We want to highlight someone who exemplifies what it means to be a philanthropist—a person who cares deeply about people and the community,” said Linda Kokemor, Executive Director of The Settlement Home for Children. “This individual embodies a passion to help others and serves as a role model for tomorrow’s leaders, and Andy has demonstrated those qualities over the years.”
The Settlement Home’s annual SpringFest event also recognizes the achievements of the Community Youth Council, a group of area high school juniors committed to a year of volunteering at The Settlement Home. The Community Leadership Award Recipient serves as an inspiration to the high school students who are beginning their journey as philanthropists.
The Andy Roddick Foundation has selected The Settlement Home as one of the organizations funded annually since 2005. In addition to supporting The Settlement Home, Roddick commits his time to helping countless other non-profits raise money and provide special experiences for their clients. “The Settlement Home’s rich history of supporting the welfare of children is something I personally believe in and feel honored to provide assistance to help with the great work they’re doing,” Roddick said.
Recently retired from professional tennis, Roddick is committing his time to the Andy Roddick Foundation and the future of providing sports-based mentoring, life skills and leadership training to youth in underserved communities.
