Five Reasons We LOVE The Settlement Home

LOVE is in the air. It’s Valentine’s Day, of course it is. In honor of the holiday, we thought we’d share five things we LOVE about being The Settlement Home.

Our 100-year history – You got it. We can’t toot our own horn enough… it’s our birthday year! We LOVE that each of our 100 years shows our commitment, passion for and strength to fight the battle to end child abuse. Each and every day, this is our goal. One day of healing and one child at a time. There are still eleven months in this fabulous 100th year to connect with us and get involved. We’d LOVE to have you!
Our community friends and supporters While nothing we do could be possible without our Club ladies, our community friends and supporters are with us through many of our projects and activities. Did you know that we have friends of The Home who give of their time by teaching music lessons; or that we have friends who give of their time by teaching dance lessons; or that we have supporters who give financially to make projects possible on campus? We have friends who do all these things and MORE!
Our tremendous staff  The incredible women and men that run the day-to-day operations at The Settlement Home are like superheroes. They provide humor when our children need laughter; they provide support when our children need help healing and they provide nurturing every single day. We are so very fond of our staff and the work they do every day.
The impact we make on the children in our care – Often, when children come into our care, it is the scariest and most difficult time in their life. They have been removed from their homes and are in a place where they don’t know anyone. It’s only natural for them to be scared and not want to be here. With time, healing and growth, they come to leave our care. And the feedback we get about their time here would melt your heart. Here’s what D (whose name will remain anonymous) said about her time here: “I feel like I matured more and The Settlement Home changed my life. I love The Settlement Home and I’m going to miss everyone.” There’s that word LOVE again.
Having strong leadership – Members of The Settlement Club are women- strong women- who tirelessly give of themselves. We absolutely can’t forget our volunteers who are men and volunteers who aren’t Club members, but give freely of their hearts as well. On this day of LOVE, we yell Yahoo for girl power and the amazing women who lead our organization. As one of the members once told us, “We don’t sit around drinking tea. This is hard work!” We agree. And we adore our Club members for it.
Happy Valentine’s Day, to each of you that have shown us love throughout the years!
